Morphofunctional Changes in Brain and Peripheral Blood in Adult and Aged Wistar Rats with AlCl3-Induced Neurodegeneration

Background: the general lifespan has been prolonged greatly during past century, and incidence of age-associated diseases, including neurodegenerative ones, increased as well. However, modelling age-related pathologies is mostly conducted on adult rodents. We studied morphofunctional changes in brain peripheral blood Wistar rats comparison with old to determine physiological differences adaptive reactions AlCl3 exposure. Methods: work was performed male rats. The animals consumed a 100 mg/kg solution each day for 60 days. Morphological neurons microglia, mRNA expression levels pro-inflammatory anti-inflammatory cytokines, microglia activation markers, amyloid-related proteins, hallmarks cellular senescence, monocyte, lymphocyte subpopulations were examined. Results: showed increasing hyperchromic hippocampus; microglia; upregulation cytokines senescence markers; downregulation cytokines; Hif-1a decrease B-cells monocyte blood. Conclusion: compared young animals, aged respond aluminum exposure severe decline most cells’ function irreversible neuronal loss. Regarding all reported data, neurodegeneration investigating factors capable accelerating or preventing it should be experimental animals.
